The Capstone Essay

The Capstone Essay is a long writing process that is infinitely open ended. It's primary goals are to:

  • To investigate a subject area or issue of your choosing, something in which you are interested--through a variety of different avenues which may include nonfiction and/or fiction books, print articles, Internet sources, films, maps, charts, and interviews--and through self-reflective research “moves.”

  • To share your investigation with an audience of your peers, other teachers, parents, the Prairie community, and even the online world.

  • To create both a sense of closure to your last year in high school and a sense of possibility, a confident realization that the world--its past, present, and future--is always yours to investigate, question, and change.
